How to Play

A secret code of coloured pegs has been set. Guess it within the allowed number of attempts. After each guess you get feedback pins telling you how close you were — but not which peg was which.

⚠️ The pins are shown in no particular order — a filled pin doesn't tell you which slot is correct, only that one of your guessed colours is in the right spot somewhere. That's the core deduction challenge.

Duplicates allowed means the same colour can appear more than once in the secret code. On Easy, every colour appears at most once — making elimination simpler.

Solving Techniques
1. Start with a Spread Guess
Use your first guess to cover as many different colours as possible. On a 4-peg board, guess four colours you haven't tried. This gives you maximum information with a single guess — any filled or outline pins immediately narrow the colour pool.
E.g. Easy/Medium: guess Red · Orange · Yellow · Green to probe four of the six colours at once.
2. Colour Elimination
If a guess returns zero pins, every colour in that guess is confirmed absent. Cross those colours off mentally — they can never appear in the code. On Easy this eliminates up to four colours in one move, often leaving only two colours in the pool.
Zero pins on Red · Orange · Yellow · Green → the code is made entirely from Blue and Purple (Easy).
3. Hold and Shift
When you have outline pins (right colour, wrong position), keep those colours in your next guess but move them to different slots. If an outline pin becomes filled, you've found the correct position. If it vanishes, that slot is definitely wrong for that colour too.
Outline on Blue in slot 1 → try Blue in slot 2 next. Filled = solved. Gone = Blue belongs in slot 3 or 4.
4. Peg Count Arithmetic
The total pin count (filled + outline) tells you exactly how many of your guessed colours appear in the code. If you change one colour between two guesses and the pin count drops by one, the removed colour was in the code; if it stays the same, it wasn't. This is especially powerful when testing for duplicates on Medium/Hard/Expert.
Guess A scores 2 pins. Swap one colour → Guess B scores 1 pin. The swapped colour was real.
5. Fix and Probe
Once you're confident a colour is correct and in the right position (filled pin that stayed filled across multiple guesses), lock it in place. Use remaining slots to test unknown colours or positions. Never waste a filled-pin slot on experimentation.
Confirmed: slot 2 = Green. Keep Green in slot 2 every subsequent guess and focus deduction on slots 1, 3, 4.
6. Duplicate Traps (Medium / Hard / Expert)
When duplicates are allowed, a colour can appear twice or more. If your pin count is unexpectedly low after including a colour, consider that the code might hold two of a different colour instead. Test this by guessing the same colour in multiple slots — a jump in filled pins confirms a duplicate.
Suspect Blue appears twice → guess Blue · Blue · Red · Yellow. Two filled pins on the Blues = confirmed duplicate.
7. Expert: Think in Pairs
With 5 pegs and 8 colours there are 32,768 possible codes. Pure guessing won't get you there in 10. Treat the first two guesses as pure colour discovery (use 8–10 distinct colours across the two guesses). By guess 3 you should know which colours are present and approximately how many — then switch to position deduction.
